Basic Steps For Kids Weight Loss

Dr.Arif Hussain T M

1 Role Mode  l -Your heath and weight directly effect your child's health and weight. Children with one option overweight parent utilize a 25% risk of becoming an overweight or obese adult. If both parents are overweight the possibility of becoming an overweight adult jumps to 50%.

2 Be Positive- Not a soul enjoys receiving negative feedback. Converse with your child with compassion and encouragement. In contrast to saying, 'Lose weight', say, 'Let's be healthy and start managing our bodies'. Concentrate on the foods it's possible to eat, not those particular which you cannot. Say, 'Let's go discover fruits and produce a fruit salad,' not 'Don't eat that.'

3 Make healthy eating loved ones affair - Loved ones that eats together, eats better, as per research conducted recently supplied in the journal Archives of Family Medicine. Children who report frequent family dinners have healthier diets than their peers who don't, the investigation showed. Also fill your refrigerator and cabinets with benefits, nuts, low-fat cheese, and things for everyone to snack on.

4 Eat Breakfast - A breakfast that incorporates protein, starch and fat could keep your babies more alert during school. Studies have shown that your weight loss is a lot more difficult in individuals who skip breakfast.

5 Slot in physical activity - Make physical activity a household activity. Regularly after dinner in the summer, opt for a half-hour walk and make it an activity that children sit up for. Provided you can afford it, enroll your kids in dancing or possibly a sporting activity they enjoy mainly because they would need to like it to keep working. Or perhaps just switch on some dance general music and have a dance party lying around.

6 Don't say diet - Mix well with your child on all dieting and ordinary people are setting them open to a disorder in eating - whether binge eating or closet eating or another brand of disorder. Lifestyle changes testified as being best to lose weight and tuck away in your pocket it off.

7 Avoid portion distortion
- When serving the food make an effort to portion out meal on dishes and stay away from buffet-type or family-style eating. When affiliated with so much food it's common specifically for your eyes to be bigger and better than your stomach. Resist the first temptation to have seconds then sign on within to check if ordinary people are really hungry.

An alcoholic is a person who suffers from alcoholism. Alcoholism occurs when a person shows signs of physical addiction to alcohol (for example, tolerance and withdrawal) and continues to drink, despite problems with physical health, mental health, and social, family, or job responsibilities. Alcohol may come to dominate the person`s life and relationships.

Hence, alcoholics or heavy drunkards are often advised to quit drinking to avoid severe detrimental effects of physical and mental health. There are numerous benefits that an alcoholic can get from discontinuing drinking besides avoiding health complications.

Alcohol at moderate levels has some negative and positive effects on health. The negative effects include increased risk of liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases, malabsorption, oropharyngeal cancer, esophageal cancer and chronic pancreatitis. Chronic heavy alcohol consumption impairs brain
development, causes brain shrinkage, dementia, physical dependence, increases neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders.

Also sustained alcohol consumption can damage the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can cause severe birth defects.

On the other hand, several studies suggest that moderate intake of alcohol may have some health benefits. It may:

-reduce your risk of getting heart disease

-reduce your risk of dying of a heart attack

-probably lessen your risk of strokes, particularly ischemic strokes

-possibly reduce your risk of diabetes

-have some beneficial effects on gastritis and cholelithiasis.

Over-consumption of alcohol is one of the leading preventable causes of death worldwide. One study links alcohol to 1 in every 25 deaths worldwide and that 5% of years lived with disability are attributable to alcohol consumption

Benefits from quitting alcohol:

Enhances overall health

Once you stop drinking alcohol, your whole life is going to take a turn around in all aspects. Not only will your health improve, but you will also get to see a huge progress in your capability in different activities. You will perform better in your career or jobs. Moreover, if you wish to enjoy a blissful life with your family and friends, stop your alcohol consumption immediately.

Increases lifespan

Quitting alcoholism will increase one’s lifespan as people who have been drinking constantly for quite some time usually die about 15 years early. It will also eventually help them stop smoking since most smokers are also alcoholics.

Better relationships

Relationships are one of the most important things in our lives. However, it is very complicated for an alcoholic to create a healthy correlation with any person. Giving up drinking will surely enhance their relationships tremendously. Besides, it will also pave the way of capable to communicate more openly and honestly with everyone.

Prevention

Educational programs and medical advice about alcohol abuse can help decrease alcohol abuse and its problems. Alcohol dependence needs more intensive management.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism recommends that women have no more than 1 drink per day and men no more than 2 drinks per day. One drink is defined as a 12-ounce bottle of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or a 1 1/2-ounce shot of liquor.

Ready to Grow Cucumbers? Know it how?

Dr.Arif Hussain T M

A favorite vegetable to add to salads, sandwiches or use to cool stressed eyes.

Cultivation

Outdoor cucumbers (sometimes referred to as ridge cucumbers, as they always used to be grown on raised mounds or ridges) need a position in full sun and enriched, well-drained soil that holds plenty of moisture and nutrients.
Growing cucumbers indoors under glass, such as in a greenhouse or grow frame, is usually more reliable - especially in poor summers - and the plants start cropping earlier in the summer and for longer.

Cucumber varieties

Different varieties are needed for indoor or outside growing. For indoors, select F1 all-female varieties as these do not, under good growing conditions, produce male flowers. If male flowers are produced remove them, otherwise the female flowers will be pollinated and the fruit will taste bitter. Do not remove male flowers from outdoor cucumbers as pollination is necessary for fruit to be produced.

Sowing cucumbers

Sow in small pots at 24-27C (75-80F) and maintain a temperature of 18-21C (65-70F) after germination and when growing on the plants.
For growing in a greenhouse, sow in March (if growing in a heated greenhouse) or April (growing in an unheated greenhouse). For outdoor cultivation, sow from mid-Apri to mid-May.
Be careful not to overwater the young plants. Transfer them to 9-10cm (3.5-4in) pots when the first true leaves have expanded.
Alternatively, you can buy young or ready-grown plants from your local garden centre or mail order seed supplier.
Plant outdoor plants from the end of May/early June after frosts are forecast.

How to care for home grown cucumbers

Transfer young plants to 25cm (10in) pots of good compost in late March (heated greenhouse), late May (unheated greenhouse) or early June outdoors. Keep the compost evenly moist - little and often is the best way. Plants can also be grown in growing-bags but will need to be carefully watered and looked after.
For outdoor growing, two weeks before seed sowing or planting out, dig planting pockets 45cm (18in) apart. Or try growing them on new compost heaps, where the heat from the rotting material will benefit the crop.
Feed plants every 10-14 days once planted out with a balanced liquid fertiliser, changing to a high potash one when the first fruit starts to set.

Indoor growing

Keep the humidity around the plants high by watering the floor.
Train the main stem up a vertical wire or cane. Pinch out the growing point when it reaches the roof. Pinch out the tips of side shoots two leaves beyond a female flower. Pinch out the tips of flowerless side shoots once they reach 60cm (2ft) long.

Outdoor growing

Covering the soil around the plants with black polythene will help them grow and improve yields, keep down weeds and keep the fruit off the soil, but may encourage slugs.
Pinch out the growing tip when the plants have developed seven leaves. The developing side shoots can be left to trail over the ground or trained up stout netting. Pinch out the tips of flowerless side shoots after seven leaves.
Keep the soil constantly moist by watering around the plants - not over them.

Harvesting

Harvest the fruit by cutting the stem just above the fruit with a sharp knife when it reaches a good size and has a rounded end and parallel sides.

Pests

Cucumbers may also be susceptible to cucumber mosaic virus.

What to eat before, during & after a run?

Dr.Arif Hussain T M
One of the keys to a good run is found in what you eat before and during a long workout. Figuring out what exactly to munch on, however, can be confusing. As part of the Run for TODAY series, nutrition and running experts are breaking down what you need to know about eating and running.

Before your run
It's important to eat a light snack about an hour before you run that's rich in carbohydrates and has a little protein. Joy Bauer, TODAY's nutrition and health editor, recommends any of the following:
  • A banana and string cheese
  • An orange and a small handful of almonds
  • A granola bar
  • A cup of whole grain cereal with a little bit of skim milk
During your run
When you're running for an extended period of time, it's important to refuel as you go and fortunately there are plenty of products on the market designed to give athletes a burst of energy. If you're stressed over which gels, chews, goos and blocks to eat while you run, running coach John Honerkamp has some advice: It doesn't really matter.
"It's just what works best for you," he said. "There's no right or wrong." He recommends trying a few different types of energy products as you train for a long race so that on race day, you know exactly what works best for you.
After your run
When you finish a long run, Joy recommends eating some sort of carbohydrate and a little protein within an hour as these will help with your muscle recovery and energy levels. This type of snack could be:
  • A sports drink
  • A nutrition bar
  • An apple with a little bit of peanut butter
"You don't want to over-stuff yourself," she said. "And definitely hydrate."

Pea protein: Is it the new soy?

Dr.Arif Hussain T M

From cereals to smoothies to energy bars, pea protein is everywhere. What's driving the craze is the hunger to find an easy-to-digest plant-based protein that is less apt to cause allergic reactions, like gluten or soy.

Pea protein is a supplement derived from the same kinds of dried peas you'd use to make soup, says Judith Dodd, an assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. These kinds of peas have a high protein content.
The one downside: It's not "a complete protein," Dodd says.
Unlike other popular protein products, soy and whey, it doesn't have all the amino acids we need that our bodies can't make, Dodd says. So to get the full nutritional value, it needs to be combined with something like rice or bread, she adds.
Still, a major attraction to pea protein is that "it is not derived from one of the commonly allergenic foods such as milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts or soybeans," says Dana Hunnes, a senior dietitian at the University of California, Los Angeles. Further, "the pea protein craze may in part be due to the increased desire for plant-based options."
It also contains soluble fiber that can lower cholesterol levels. "The protein in pea fiber can also help keep you feeling satisfied," says New York nutritionist Bonnie Taub-Dix, R.D.
There's a growing body of evidence that plant-based diets can reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and the risk of early death. A report recently released at an American Heart Association meeting found that people who got 70 percent or more of their food from fruits, vegetables and grains had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from heart diseases.
And pea protein has the added benefit that it is more environmentally friendly, Hunnes says.
"Producing pea proteins is better for the environment than milk or egg proteins because fewer resources—water, other crops, fertilizers—are needed to make them, and they return nitrogen to the soil reducing the need for fertilizer," she explains.
But a supplement, even one as nutritious as pea protein, is not as good as the real thing.
"I'd rather have a bowl of pea soup and a hunk of crusty bread than pea protein added to something I'm drinking," says Dodd.
